Healthy Food Finds: Making Good Choices Easy

Yesterday we talked about tracking calories and how it matters even if you go over. Today I want to share some specific foods that help me eat better while still enjoying what I eat.

I’m a huge Costco fan, and while you can find these elsewhere, let me tell you about Just Bare chicken strips. They make lightly breaded chicken pieces, and my personal favorite is their spicy chicken strips. Here’s what’s great about them – the macros (calories, protein, fat, carbs) aren’t that different from plain skinless chicken breast. But instead of dealing with boring chicken prep, you get something that tastes pretty close to Chick-fil-A, which let’s face it, most of us love.

I use these strips in a few different ways. Sometimes I’ll add just a little bit of sauce (I actually keep bottles of Chick-fil-A’s spicy Polynesian sauce around) and try to minimize how much I use. For the spicy strips, one of my favorite breakfast moves is making small protein waffles using Kodiak mix. The macros on this chicken and waffles combo actually aren’t bad at all – you get protein from both the waffle and the strips. Sometimes I’ll dip them in ranch too – and while the macros on normal ranch aren’t great, tomorrow I’ll share another total food cheat code and some fun ways to use it. Stay tuned.
